Coil Wire - Mobile 160m Antenna?

I forgot all about this stuff -

I acquired this spool when we were clearing out the shop at school getting ready to transfer occupancy to the facilities department. LOTS of stuff was tossed out and this spool was part of it.

It is aluminum, pretty stiff, and as you can see - .0945" diameter, about #10AWG. This would be great for a wicked 160 meter mobile antenna!

Maybe I could add some competition for KB8UVN and his wild creations out of 14 gauge Romex:

Central Ohio Weather - Snow, Wind

I am a weather junkie. Most of the time when I have the TV on it is tuned in to The Weather Channel. I happened to catch a weather alert banner scrolling across the bottom of the screen leading in to a high wind watch for Wednesday. The winds are forecast to reach 30-40mph with gusts up to 55. What is a bit odd is the banner showed up two days before. Usually they will send out those watches the day or night before and mention the possibility of whatever inclimate weather is approaching a few days in advance as they do the weekly forecasts, the official weather watch is not typically issued until closer to the event. Maybe there is something weird with this one? I will be watching.

As part of the same system it looks like we are finally going to get some snow. I snowboard and welcome the snow. Plus, it will add a unique twist to backpacking. I am building a folding wood stove for my cabin tent and we have been looking forward to getting some snow so we can test this out! As to how much snow we'll get... something tells me we aren't going to get a whole lot, but I hope I am very wrong!

Scott W4PA of Ten Tec Moves to Vibroplex

I was a bit surprised to see the article on the ARRL web site on the move of Scott Robbins W4PA of Ten Tec changing careers and moving on to ownership of Vibroplex. Although I have a couple of Vibroplex keys (a Champion bug cerca 1970's and a current model Code Warrior Jr iambic) I don't have any Ten Tec gear. I have noiticed Scott has done several product videos on the Orion, Orion 2, and Omni VII, among other products I am sure. Hopefully both companies will prosper well in to the future!

By the way, I think the picture of Scott on the top left of the ARRL page was from Hamvention last year. I recognize that booth!
