Wide SSB - HiFi Audio or Wasted Bandwidth?

For normal SSB I usually run about 2.4kHz wide. I don't like taking up too much bandwidth, but I don't like to sound like an alien either. However, those that run up over 3kHz wide, to me, are just wasting bandwidth.

I read a post on the TS-2000 yahoo group of a guy inquiring about increasing his bandwidth over the 3kHz limit. Why? If you stack up a bunch of nets (say on 75m) where everyone is running super-wide SSB you run out of band fast, and the potential for QRM goes up significantly.

Save bandwidth and cut your SSB audio back a bit, especially in crowded band conditions. If you are on 2m SSB talking to a bunch of locals on line-of-sight then I could see running wide. If you are in any kind of situation where bandwidth starts to be an issue - cut the audio down and make it easier for the rest of us.

Another reason CW is great - I can cut my filter down and chop everyone else out of the passband, unless two stations are right on top of each other. You can't do that with 2-3kHz wide SSB signals.
