New DC-Daylight Radio From Icom - IC-9100

I heard some guys talking about this radio at Universal Radio on Saturday. Apparently Icom has come out with a new radio - the IC-9100.




From what the specs say it will do 160-2m, as well as 70cm and the provision for 1.2gig. The radio also has optional roofing filters of 6kHz and 3kHz as opposed to selectable built in roofing filters.

As you can see from the layout of the front panel the controls on the right resemble that of the IC-756 and 746 series. I am guessing the Twin PBT and filtering works the same. That seems to be a trademark of the Icom rigs and works better than the filtering in my TS-2000 (you can select a base width and then control both the high and low ends individually to narrow it further or shift the whole passband up and down).

I am curious as to what the starting price of the radio will be as well as the whole list of features. My guess is that it will be to the IC-7600 as the IC-746 is to the IC-756, just more bands! I am sure the VHF operators will really like it.


The IC-9100 is appealing to me also, but I already have two DC-daylight radios. I still think the FT-2000 is the next rig I will buy.
