Amateur Radio to the Rescue
This is a really neat story just posted on the ARRL website of how Amateur Radio was used in a, I assume, very successful rescue. It seems to me, more often we hear of hikers getting lost or injured in the back country. This story is about a family on the way to the hospital experiencing car trouble in rural Nevada:
Nevada Hams Coordinate Roadside Medical Rescue
It is clear that the operators involved were experienced in coordinating assistance. However, it does highlight a prime example of what Ham radio is really capable of.

Being in rural Nevada hearing about somebody helping another via amateur radio is nice to hear. Most places in rural Nevada cellphones don't work. The good thing is Elko county has a good system of repeaters. The county where I am there are repeaters, but finding somebody is rare and if you are more than 20 miles out of town, forget it. I have HF in the mobile because of this.
