Silky Saws - Fillet Knives for Wood!

I went on the search for a good backpacking saw. I posted on the forums over at Backpacker.com and got a recommendation for looking in to the Silky Saw company.

Long story short, I ended up with a Pocket Boy 170 with a medium tooth blade. The saw is listed as a "large tooth" blade but apparently, after I talked to the company, the models were switched around and the large is now "medium".

Anyhow, this saw is really amazing. I was playing around with it this weekend cleaning up some brush. The saw cuts through wood like butter! It is really amazing how easy it cuts. I let my dad try this saw and he said it felt like a fillet knife for wood. That pretty much sums it up.

Silky makes another smaller version of the pocket boy, the 130. I opted for the larger 170 for the extra blade length. I am glad I went with this size. In the past I have used my Swiss Army Swiss Champ - it has a saw blade on it for wood, which for it's size works, but it just isn't cut out for the chore of cutting up firewood. The Pocket Boy 170 fits this need better than I could have asked for. I can't wait to use it on the trail!
